Scott
Helen

Scott:Since we have so many excellent employees, I want to give them more than fair wages.

I want to give them more than fair wages.

The team also won praise for sportsmanship and fair play.

Helen:That would attract many talented people who are trying to find a higher salary and a better employer.

That would attract many talented people who are trying to find a higher salary and a better employer.

定语从句who are trying ... 一般来说,定语从句紧跟在被修饰的名词、代词的后面,由关系代词that / who / whom / whose / which / what / as和关系副词where / when / why等引导。

例如:Can you lend me the novel that you mentioned the other day? Do you still remember the shop where we met Mr. Niu last Friday?

Scott:Yes. Some companies pay competitive wages.

Helen:But generally speaking, high salaries stop people from moving on.

Scott:You mean, instead of overpaying, we should simply pay well to get the talents we need?

Helen:That's the point. The wage policy enables us to control the major part of the operation and to save money at the same time.

Scott:Do you mean overtime?

Helen:Right. Partly through overtime, partly through other ways.

Scott:I see. But usually it's not the employer but the workers who control overtime.

It's not the employer but the workers who control overtime.

not ... but ...

They do not want your pity but your help. It's ... who ...

We worked overtime to meet the target.

Helen:There must be a solution to this problem.

Scott:Don't you think that high salaries are the key factor in motivating the staff?

Helen:It's really a complex question. Higher salaries may encourage us to produce more but I'm not sure whether it will make us more competitive.

Scott:So let's work out a better policy.
