Lisa

Emergency Services

Lisa:Oh my god! The house is on fire from the outside!

Bella:What?! What did you say? Did you say there was a fire? But I don't see any flames.

Lisa:Yes, a fire — we've got to get out of here, now! Hurry up! If the fire spreads to the stairs, it could block our way out!

Bella:You're right! This is no time for talking. Perhaps we should climb out of the window and jump down? It's only two floors.

Lisa:No, we can't do that. We'd better call 911 first for help.

(Making a phone call)

Emergency Services:911, how may I direct your call?

Bella:Fire, fire service please! You've got to help us — there's a huge fire here.

Emergency Services:Calm down, madam. What's your name and where are you calling from?

Bella:Um, Bella. Bella Johnson. We're calling from my apartment.

Emergency Services:Your address please, madam. What's your address?

Bella:Oh, right, it's 321 Brightford Avenue on the intersection with Maine Street. We're apartment 26 on the second floor.

Emergency Services:Thank you. Where is the fire? How serious is it?

Bella:The fire seems to be coming from one of the apartments in our block — I think it's below us. I'm pretty sure we can't get out by the stairway. The flames are pretty big!

Emergency Services:If you can get out of the building, leave the building now and wait in a safe area. If there is smoke in the corridor, put a wet piece of cloth over your mouth and body, and breathe through that. Please stay close to the floor. Our fire engines will be there in about 5 minutes.
