Culture Note
Formerly known as Community Service Volunteers (CSV), it is the UK's largest volunteering and training charity. It was founded in 1962 by Mora and Alec **son, who also founded Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO). In the 2004/2005 financial year, Volunteering Matters had six operating companies with a total expenditure of £43million, employing 944 full-time equivalent staff. They organize full-time, part-time and one-off volunteering opportunities for different groups in the community, including young adults (through Millennium Volunteers for 16- to 24-year-olds), people over 50(through the RSVP —Retired Senior Volunteer Program) and for employees of large corporations.
The largest network for people 55, and older, links more than 500,000 individuals to service opportunities in its three programs. The biggest of these, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), has members helping some 60,000 local organizations tutoring and mentoring (指导) children, assisting victims（受害者）of natural disasters, improving the environment, and conducting safety patrols. They also provide business and technical support to nonprofits, including accounting, IT, and fundraising expertise.
Senior Companions help the elderly maintain independence by assisting them with daily tasks.Foster Grandparents mentor and tutor children.
